Bullet Journal vs Planner|Why I switched

Hi there! Today I would like to share with you my personal thoughts about the different methods of planning I’ve tried throughout the years.

It wasn’t until 2015 that I first learned about the bullet journal method. It seemed so appealing and cool, I wanted to try it right away, but I already had bought an agenda for 2016, so I stuck with that, and decided to try it on 2017. So, the day came and I was ready, the only problem was to choose a notebook. I picked this one, even though it was blank because I liked the thick paper and the little doodles for coloring it had. Anyway, I liked it very much.

I loved how customizable it was, how every week looked different, and the fun I had doing it. So, why did I buy an agenda?

Around summer 2017, I started to notice the big fault in the way I used my bullet journal. I was using it mainly for school, so my problem was that Sometimes the teachers would assign homework a month or two ahead, and I didn’t know where to write them down. Other times I couldn’t get the time to make my spreads, and I was left without any place to schedule my daily activities. This was the main reason why I decided not to continue. It bummed me out, cause I really enjoyed it, but I needed something more stable, where, no matter how far away or how busy I was, I could plan ahead. This really gave me peace of mind, which for me, is one of the main goals.

So I bought the agenda of my dreams, the Bando Agenda. And I really love it. I try to decorate it and make it look pretty, which is really fun. Still, I do miss some features of my bullet journal. My weekly notes, expenses, and sleep trackers. The lists and the satisfaction of looking at the finished spreads.

I know that most people recommend to keep the journal simple, and I know the goal is to be organized, not artistic. But, truth be told, I really care about the way it looks, that’s one of the reasons I get motivated, so I couldn’t keep up.

What I’m trying to say, is that, if you procrastinate, and have a busy schedule, probably an agenda is a better option for you, as it was for me. It doesn’t even have to be expensive, it only needs to get the job done. I really would like to give journaling an other chance, while keeping a simple planner for work/school related stuff. Another option I really want to try, is the happy planer. I love how customizable it is, and all the accessories that they sell.

I would love to hear what is your method, and if you have any tips for me!
